Photographs - The Idea of North

Updated: Jul 18

Copyright 'Nadine-Bootle 2024' - The Three Graces (three big buildings) popping up behind Darth Vader's mask (Mann Island Apartments) with the Museum of Liverpool on the left. Taken from the Maritime Museum.

Copyright 'Nadine-Bootle 2024' - Jesse Hartley built the greatest dock in the world in the 1840s for wooden sailing ships. The Albert Dock in Liverpool! Then the ships got bigger! From the background to Boys from the Blackstuff as a mud filled husk to a tourist hub and cultural heart of the City. Thanks Jesse. And then thanks again!!!

In a northern town a Syrian guy gave me a free coffee and seemed surprised that I knew a bit about Syria. He brings the economy to post industrial streets. Love the contrast in the double yellow lines. And the plants breaking right on through the pavement.

Glass in retreat. The top two storeys quiet. The bottom one doing much better thanks. Cars all shiny in the shining sun.

A reminder to all below the white collar class of where you go when you don't follow Eighteenth Century rules on private space and property. Note the depth and fractal actuals of the actual trees.

From within the exposed carcass of this building sprout tall towers. See the roof getting done next door. Love the trees and the clouds. A real mix of nature and humanity old and new.

When William the Conqueror harried the north, little did he know we would be dealing with the consequences a millennium later. This northern site used to be rammed with people and shops back in the 80 and early 90s. Now kicking the bucket.

In the North new shoots of community vitality and artistic expression carve and forge meaning. Amen to that. Thanks In Another Place!!! Note the resurrection. They are the resurrection.

A scene from a sci-fi movie? This is on a working day. Note the spheres for the lights. Beautiful. People live above the glass in towers reaching up to the sky.

Activity for the community. There is good in the world.
