This floor here used to be bustling with people. The bottom section of Bootle Strand just down the stairs ahead is about to be renovated as part of a huge redevelopment. Hence the footfall is currently reduced anyway. The internet and supermarkets have had a big impact on the Strand over the last twenty years.
A yellow stalagmite, a round bench and T.J. Hughes. It was a quiet Monday morning. Most of the action is found to the right. There used to be a walkway here on the left. It is now hidden within. Beyond that was the music shop and pet shop of Strand folklore. Footfall is light at this entrance due to the renovation, as said above, and the other entrance will have far more going on near the centre of the Strand.
At right a rocket. While Whitey is on the moon...people love to meet in the Strand under its covered walkways. The new plans hope to open them up again, like the scene at the end of Highlander 2, where the protective layer above the city is broken and the sky returns.
